Alright everyone, remember Doña Tocha? She was the star of the short film we shot last fall in General Cepeda, and we just learned her house caught fire burning most of her belongings.

From the GoFundMe campaign (#linkinbio) “Thank You Lord, she was not home at the time. Since there is no fire station here, the women of KM64 threw buckets of water on it to stop the fire.

Her home is unlivable and most of her furniture, clothing, and blankets are gone. We call her the matriarch because she had 15 children and everyone there is related to her. She has more than stolen our hearts and we intend to fix her home as soon as possible.” They only need $3000 to repair her home, please consider giving and helping rebuild her home!

It’s going to be good to be back in SoCal this week. It’s been almost a year since we moved (which is longer than we meant to go without a visit) but can’t wait to spend time with family and friends and get a little bit of that California sun before spring revs up back in Michigan.

Most people know I was never much of a fan of Southern California while I lived there. I’d say it’s always summer, never Christmas. It really felt that way.

But it’s got a different meaning for me-for us, now. It’s where Jamie and I met, it’s where we had Hank, our first home was a tiny little one room guesthouse right off Sunset Blvd, and I get all sentimental when I think about it now.

I love Detroit, and I never expected that a chunk of my heart would get left in Los Angeles. It will be nice to be back. (Oh also @hallithbates + @sjogrenjack 4ever. We’re so excited for you guys!)

These four rolls are about a year old and have yet to be developed. At least one is severely sun damaged and the others definitely haven’t been preserved properly, but we haven’t really touched our Mamiya or Minolta since moving to Detroit last year.

It’s about time to start again.

Also i know it’s April Fool’s but this is not an April Fool’s post. Sorry to disappoint.

A while ago I shared that we’d be updating our website with a new branding project. Then I took a break from Instagram (not lent related #surprise) and that never really happens.

Time can pass pretty quickly when you’re not really taking time to absorb what’s happening around you. I don’t do that very often, and tend to live for work. I’m always thinking about it and doing it and planning it and adding more work to the pile. Our Instagram feed doesn’t show it, but that seems to be all I do, even on the weekends.

I’ve been trying to slow down, even when things are busy. To take some time to absorb. To think, to watch time pass instead of being caught up in its passing. - Paul

Flying back to Detroit today. Looking forward to a new year, new projects, and whatever’s in store for us in the coming months. Also looking forward to enjoying some of that Detroit winter. ❄️ And only eleven months until Christmas!🎄

There are so many churches in Rome like this. Where light can just pass through the window in splotches and hit something that glistens, highlighting a figure or spot in such a way that you otherwise might miss it amongst the rest of the ornate decor. With so much gold and detail throughout each and every of the countless churches, it’s difficult to focus on any specific part. It’s nice to let the light lead your attention. ⠀

I’d like to live more like that too. Let my mind and my heart focus on the light rather than the dark. See the positive and the good in the world rather than wallow in the dark. Sure it’s idealistic, but I find if I listen more than I talk (and if you know me, you know that’s not really my style), I can see where God is shining the light.⠀
